Shepherd of the Day

Löwe at 6 weeks old

Meet Löwe, today's Shepherd of the Day.

Löwe is from the highly regarded von den Oher Tannen Kennel located south of Atlanta, Georgia. She was born in 2015 and is our 3rd Shepherd.

She loves fetching, walking and water, no matter the temperature. We live on the Chesapeake Bay and she never misses an opportunity to explore.

Interesting nugget: Löwe made an appearance on HGTV last year being apart of an episode of Happily Wherever.

Product Spotlight: Dogtra 1900s

As Löwe got older, she developed some aggressive behavior towards other dogs. We enrolled her in specialized training for dogs exhibiting this type of behavior. Our trainer recommended this electronic collar.

If you're in need of one, we recommend it for it's effectiveness and durability. We've had ours of over 4 years and it still works flawlessly.

A Very Happy Reunion

Here's a feel good story about a German Shepherd getting reunited with its owner after 4 years!  Stephanie Moore Malmstrom said "We're so blessed to have her back" after being reunited with Sheba after she was stolen four years ealier.

Read the story here.

Did You Know?

Horand von Grafrath (January 1, 1895 – after 1899) was the first German Shepherd Dog and the genetic basis for modern German Shepherds.

Horand was born in Frankfurt Germany. Bred by Friedrich Sparwasser of Sparwasser Kennels.

Max von Stephanitz later purchased the dog for his breeding program, which sought to combine the best characteristics of the Thuringian shepherds from the North with the Wurtemberg shepherds of the South. Horand was the first dog to be officially registered as a new breed called the German Shepherd Dog (registration number SZ1).

Nutrition: Barf World

After doing extensive research, we chose to put our dogs on a raw diet. At first, we made the food ourselves. It made us feel good to know exactly what they were eating but it was a huge time commitment. Each batch took about 4 hours to prepare.

When our lifestyles changed and we didn't have as much free time, we sought out a mail order solution. After trying a few different vendors, we settled on Barf. Our two dogs eat twice per day and love each and every meal, even after eating the same thing for over 3 years!
